Holiday Beach House - 'Cosy Cabin'
This may be self indulgent, as this page has nothing to do with Amateur Radio. So, if you feel that it should be deleted, leave a message in the Guest book. It's a tribute to my Mum and Dad who helped me build our holiday house which is located about 300 klms from where we live in Adelaide. It took about 3 hours to get there travelling by car. The house is situated in a seaside town on Yorke Peninsula in South Australia called Marion Bay. We spent many happy days fishing and swimming there. I bought the vacant block of land and after a couple of years, with the help of my friend, 'Lisette', we were able to start erecting the holiday house which was a 2 bedroom log cabin. Without my Dad's help, I doubt that I would have attempted to build it. His name was 'Tom' and this page is dedicated to his memory and also my Mum's whose name is 'Edie.' My Dad was such a hard worker. The ground there was not level so we had to use a jack hammer to dig 40 holes through the limestone so that treated wooden stumps could be concreted into the ground to support a level, 'foundational floor' on which to build the house. A couple of my work mates at the time, 'Hague' and 'Perry' , gave me a hand to lift the wall panels into place. My Mum also did a lot of work with the interior of the house. I guess it took a couple of years to finish building it as I also had to work in Adelaide, where we lived. In his retirement, both Dad and Mum spent many days at nearby Stenhouse Bay which is shown in the background. He loved fishing and would often fish both off the beaches and the jetties. Both Mum and Dad are gone now. After Dad's passing, we rented out the house on short term holiday rental for 5 years. We gave it the name 'Cosy Cabin.' About 7 years ago, we sold it, but we still have the pictures and the memories. Good on you Dad.

Without her help, we couldn't have built it when we did. Good friends for over 30 years now.
